Rating: PG-13 Director: Reinaldo Marcus Green This movie was fantastic! I already had high hopes for it based on what I’ve heard from others and it certainly didn't fail my expectations. The acting, story, characters and the overall movie quality itself was really amazing. I didn’t even know the Williams family had other kids so it was really cool to see the family aspect they all had as a family and actually reminded me of how my family is and how supportive they are of everything. I enjoyed seeing how Venus and Serena grew up and how they were brought into the sport despite the hardships they faced. I can see why Will Smith is nominated for best actor. I think he’s an excellent actor in general but this movie sways away from what I’ve seen him in before. I had mixed feelings about his character. I enjoyed how he always fought for his kids no matter how many times he was turned down and was even willing to be beat at times but I didn’t like how he could’ve sabotaged their careers and was overbearing a lot of the time, also low-key abusive. I think if King Richard wasn’t played by Will Smith, I wouldn’t have liked it as much because Richard himself is kind of unlikeable. I think the main problem I had with this movie was how they didn’t talk about Serena much and it was really more about Venus. I was expecting to see more about how Serena got to where she is today. I really liked the coaches as people and how much Richard fought for Venus and Serena to get a chance. The tennis match near the end of the movie where Venus was playing against a professional to win the tournament was enjoyable to watch. I’m not a huge tennis person but I knew of Venus and Serena and I’m glad they made a movie about their dad and how they came from nothing to celebrities at such young ages. Overall I think this movie discusses so much and gives a good perspective on family and just staying kids as long as you can without pressures from athletics or other things that keep kids from being kids. I’m glad this movie brings attention to Venus and Serena and their upbringing. Trailer: youtu.be/BKP_0z52ZAw

Rating: PG-13 Director: Sian Heder This movie probably made my top 5 movies! It’s obviously not perfect and there are some things in the movie that don’t need to be there. However the movie had me laughing, crying, and overall I enjoyed it a lot. First of all I thought it was amazing that they used deaf actors instead of people pretending to be deaf in the movie. Ruby’s entire family is played by deaf actors which I think made it come together so much better because it was real. The actors themselves, Marlee Martin, Troy Kotsur, and Daniel Durant are absolutely amazing in this film. Every emotion they had, I was feeling alongside them which is what I believe makes a good film. A good plot, setting, costumes, etc are all necessary to help films be enjoyable, but without emotion the audience can connect to, the film goes from decent to bad. I think Ruby’s crush and relationship with Miles was unnecessary, but it didn’t ruin the film for me. The struggle Ruby had with deciding to go to college and do what she loves, singing, or stay behind to help her family was just so amazing to see play out on screen. I like the actor who plays Bernardo but he also made me angry a lot of the time. When she was late by like 20 minutes, how did he not understand her entire family is deaf and she needed to be there to help them. But I did appreciate him playing the piano for her during her audition and being supportive of her for the most part when her family wasn’t so much. I think my favorite part of the entire movie was during her audition when her family snuck to the upper part of the auditorium and then she started signing her song for them. I cried so hard at that part but it just made me so happy. I also enjoyed when she was doing her choir part with Miles and all of a sudden the noise came to a blank for a solid minute to show what it felt like to be in her family and not be able to hear anything, I completely broke down at this part. This movie definitely made me go through an emotional rollercoaster, but in a good way. It allowed me to connect with the characters and that’s what helped make it one of my top 5 favorite movies. I think this movie deserves a lot of awards because it truly is a beautiful movie technologically but also emotionally as well. Trailer: youtu.be/0pmfrE1YL4I Rating: PG-13 Director: Shawn Levy This was one of those movies that I had low expectations for, however it exceeded my expectations which I believe made the movie better. I wanted to see this movie when it first came out but only because of Ryan Reynolds. When I saw it this weekend, there was so much to love about it. The whole idea of characters living inside a game has been done before but I don’t recall any where the characters can associate/communicate themselves with the real world. It took me a little bit before I was intrigued by the whole idea, but once Guy started leveling up and getting Millie used to him, it made more sense and was a lot more interesting. When the characters kept talking about Antwan, I was expecting some big scary guy, not Taika Waititi, however he played the character exceptionally well. I originally thought he was the director of this film because I knew he directed Jojo Rabbit but also starred in it, like he did in Free Guy. When I found out he wasn’t the director, I was a little shocked to see him play a pretty major role in another director’s film, but I guess they are close friends. There was a ton of hilarious comedy in this movie on top of the actual plot. Ryan Reynolds portrayed the nerdy character very well and was funny, just like in most of his films. I really appreciated when he was fighting dude and used his glasses to pull out a shield, which happened to be Captain America’s shield while playing the MCU score. That was fantastic, but what was even cooler was they had Chris Evans watching the streaming of the video game and made a comment about what he saw. I appreciated the humor that was in this movie. I always like to look at the cast after watching it to see up and coming actors/actresses or to find people I know were in it, but just couldn’t think of their names. In this case, I didn’t know a lot of famous actors that were in this movie. For instance, Dwayne Johnson, Hugh Jackman, John Krasinski, and Tina Fey. After watching the movie, I searched on youtube where they were in the film and found out they all played voices of some kind, but never showed their faces. I actually thought it was pretty cool that all these famous actors were willing to play voices and they all did a great job. I can definitely see why this movie is up for best visual effects! Everytime Guy would put the glasses on, parts of the game became alive to him, but when he took them off it was the normal everyday surroundings. I think they did a great job defining the real world versus what is in the game. I enjoyed this movie a LOT! Trailer: youtu.be/X2m-08cOAbc Rating: PG-13 Director: Craig Gillespie I first watched this when it first came out last summer when I was at Lake Cumberland with my family. But I only saw the first portion of it because we were watching it while waiting for dinner to be ready. I haven’t ever watched it since, but I remember the first part being pretty good, well at least from what I could hear (my little cousins are quite loud). First off the soundtrack is TOP TIER AMAZING. I usually listen to pop or country music, but the soundtrack for this movie made me so happy. Every song they played fit the scene it was playing over and the music in general was just good vibes. I really enjoyed how the music was actually louder than most music is in movies because it went along with the whole badass and revenge themes. Now more about the movie itself. The casting was exceptional, especially Emma Stone. I think Emma Stone is perfect in any role because she’s just that kind of actress, but this brought out a different character for her than the usual characters she plays. In this movie she was wanting to achieve vengeance and was ‘cruel’ at times which is completely different from most of the characters she portrays which are soft and innocent. Emma Thompson was also a great choice for the Baroness role! She was downright evil the whole time and did an excellent job of playing the person who is the whole reason Cruella is who she is. The makeup and costuming is also very enjoyable. The hair wraps the Baroness wore and also the different hair colors Cruella went through were just gorgeous. But the best costuming part of the movie was the white dress Cruella wore to the black and white ball but it eventually went up in flames and became a red dress, portraying her signature color. After seeing that transition, I was just in awe. Not only was the dress itself gorgeous but the whole scene was literal perfection and eye grabbing. The beads on the dress that turned into butterflies was also an amazing sight to watch. There were many aspects of this movie that made it so enjoyable. I think every factor that makes a movie good was accomplished in this movie. The only part I was upset about was how Cruella started her dislike for dalmatians. I understood this at the beginning when she saw them kill her mother, but throughout the movie, she captures them and trains them to like her with the whistle to where they actually choose her over the Baroness. At the end, she kept the 3 dalmations when the Baroness went to jail and gave 2 of the puppies to Roger and Anita. I guess the creators of the movie want us to fill this in ourselves or have another movie coming out to show where her hatred started so her backstory could be entirely focused on in this movie. Overall, this might be one of my favorite movies because everything about it is exceptional and is just a great story to see on the screen. I HIGHLY recommend it! The puppies/dogs were also a plus because they’re so freaking adorable and it was cute how they helped Cruella and her friends steal things. Also one of the dogs names is Wink, which is just so cute.
