Rating: PG-13 Director: Craig Gillespie I first watched this when it first came out last summer when I was at Lake Cumberland with my family. But I only saw the first portion of it because we were watching it while waiting for dinner to be ready. I haven’t ever watched it since, but I remember the first part being pretty good, well at least from what I could hear (my little cousins are quite loud). First off the soundtrack is TOP TIER AMAZING. I usually listen to pop or country music, but the soundtrack for this movie made me so happy. Every song they played fit the scene it was playing over and the music in general was just good vibes. I really enjoyed how the music was actually louder than most music is in movies because it went along with the whole badass and revenge themes. Now more about the movie itself. The casting was exceptional, especially Emma Stone. I think Emma Stone is perfect in any role because she’s just that kind of actress, but this brought out a different character for her than the usual characters she plays. In this movie she was wanting to achieve vengeance and was ‘cruel’ at times which is completely different from most of the characters she portrays which are soft and innocent. Emma Thompson was also a great choice for the Baroness role! She was downright evil the whole time and did an excellent job of playing the person who is the whole reason Cruella is who she is. The makeup and costuming is also very enjoyable. The hair wraps the Baroness wore and also the different hair colors Cruella went through were just gorgeous. But the best costuming part of the movie was the white dress Cruella wore to the black and white ball but it eventually went up in flames and became a red dress, portraying her signature color. After seeing that transition, I was just in awe. Not only was the dress itself gorgeous but the whole scene was literal perfection and eye grabbing. The beads on the dress that turned into butterflies was also an amazing sight to watch. There were many aspects of this movie that made it so enjoyable. I think every factor that makes a movie good was accomplished in this movie. The only part I was upset about was how Cruella started her dislike for dalmatians. I understood this at the beginning when she saw them kill her mother, but throughout the movie, she captures them and trains them to like her with the whistle to where they actually choose her over the Baroness. At the end, she kept the 3 dalmations when the Baroness went to jail and gave 2 of the puppies to Roger and Anita. I guess the creators of the movie want us to fill this in ourselves or have another movie coming out to show where her hatred started so her backstory could be entirely focused on in this movie. Overall, this might be one of my favorite movies because everything about it is exceptional and is just a great story to see on the screen. I HIGHLY recommend it! The puppies/dogs were also a plus because they’re so freaking adorable and it was cute how they helped Cruella and her friends steal things. Also one of the dogs names is Wink, which is just so cute.
