Rating: PG-13 Director: Rian Johnson This movie was absolutely fantastic! Sometimes murder mysteries can be boring because of their predictability or the way its played out in a movie, however that was not the case with Knives Out. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the entire thing and never found myself bored. I liked how they kept making you think it was a suicide because you truly couldn’t figure out who the killer was. I had a feeling it wasn’t a suicide but I went along with it because I thought the movie was playing a trick on the audience. I think the casting was incredible. Jamie Lee Curtis, Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Katherine Langford, Don Johnson, and Ana de Armas were all wonderful in their parts and really made the story come alive. I liked how they would give you parts of what happened that night through flashbacks and then go back to the present leaving you to question “whodunnit.” I’m not very good at determining the killers in a murder mystery, but usually my mom can. For this movie, she wasn’t able to guess which means the way this movie played the story out was very engaging. It was hard for me to see Chris Evans as the bad guy because of the Marvel movies I have been watching whenever I can, but what made it fun was to see him play a different role than a hero. I think his acting was impressive and embodied the villain part perfectly. The whole time I was fooled thinking he was the nice one helping Marta out when really he was trying to frame her. I really loved the ending when Marta was sipping her coffee peacefully looking down on the rest of the family showing them they no longer belong in the house. Harlan was such a cutie and I hate that it was the sweet elderly person who died, but the story between him and Marta was really cute. I hate that Marta was made to feel like she killed him when in reality Ransom purposefully tried to kill his own grandfather through Marta. In this story, money as a motive made sense, but it would be cool to see other motives for a murder mystery. I think it was brilliant to add comedy into the murder mystery because that made it all the more enjoyable. I’m excited to see the story for Knives Out 2, even though it will have a different cast.
