Rating: R
Director: Pablo Larraín When reading what this movie was about, I knew I wanted to watch it with my mom because she liked Princess Diana. I had no idea that this movie would be so sad. From what I’ve seen and heard, Princess Diana was always a happy go lucky kind of person. This movie definitely showed the dark side behind being a part of the royal family. Everyone always assumes being part of a royal family is wonderful but this movie shows how that is not the case. I feel bad saying this, but Diana’s character in this movie made me angry a lot of the time. However I also felt bad for her at the same time. I knew her life wasn’t perfect obviously, but had no idea all the crazy things she was put through to be part of the family. The fact that they have to weigh in before and after christmas to show they had a good time and gained 3 pounds is insane. I was very shocked at the rules that were in place when they were in the castle. I was also shocked at how this took place over just 3 days. Each day felt like it took place over 3 days. When I looked up pictures of Diana at this certain Christmas, Kristen Stewart looked just like her. The costuming in this movie is awesome. I also think Kristen Stewart in this role did a pretty good job and captured the emotions Princess Diana was feeling. I had no idea Charles cheated on her with Camila, so at that part in the movie my mom was the one to explain it to me. She told me how despite being cheated on, Diana couldn’t leave the royal family because they didn’t want the secret getting out. I hate how her whole life and actions were controlled by other people. I think this movie didn’t really feel like a movie and felt a little more like a documentary because of all the individual scenes with Princess Diana herself and all her emotions. This wasn't my favorite movie but I see how important it was to be made and show the inside of being part of the royal family and the strain Diana underwent. It gave me a whole new appreciation for her and those part of the family.
